The Sushi Night at the Brigadoon, a short walk from Iris House, is a favorite with locals and guests alike.

Eating Out

Saba has some great places to eat. You will be surprised at the quality of the food and the value for money. All establishments accept either USD or Netherlands Antilles Guilders. Most accept credit cards except where noted. While not an exhaustive list of places to eat on the island, below is a list of our favourite places to go all of which, with the exception of the Rainforest Cafe and the Gate House which require a short taxi ride, are within a 1-5 minute walk from Iris House.

Great local seafood and prime USDA steaks. The only live lobster tank on the island which is stocked regularly with lobster from the Saba banks. Be sure to try Michael's famous Tuna Salad which is out of this world. Thursdays are prime rib night, Saturday is sushi night. Monday is the weekly presentation by Sea Saba (starts at 5:30 p.m.) on the history of Saba and the characteristics of the dive sites and is highly recommended. Opened every night of the week (except Tuesdays) from 6:30 p.m. Reservations recommended.

Michael and Trish, the owners, are avid scuba divers. Ask to see Michael’s slide show towards the end of the evening when he is finished in the kitchen.

Saba’s one and only country western saloon. Eddie and Pat have a "Country and Western only" policy on the music they play. Reasonably priced drinks and great place to meet people. Tuesday and Friday nights are Barbecue Nights were Eddie cooks excellent ribs and chicken over an open charcoal fire. USD 10.00 per person for ribs, chicken or a combo. Comes with fried rice, baked beans and other side dishes. Sunday night is Steak Night. USD 16.00 for a rib eye, baked potato with butter and sour cream and side salad. Reservations definitely recommended on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday for food. Cash Only.

The newest addition to Saba’s dining scene has quickly established itself as a popular place for food and drink. Marvi and Chris Johnson turn out the best pizza (either eat in or take out) on the island. Also sandwiches, salads and burgers on offer which are very good. Chris has a great collection of blues and classic rock CDs which makes for enjoyable listing. Very interesting interior design done by local artist Robby Lynn based on a nautical theme with lots of interesting old articles and pictures on Saba. Be sure to check out the book on the bar put together by Will Johnson, Chris’s dad. Will is an avid historian on all things related to Saba and has put together a really interesting collection of memorabilia on the island. Open 10 to 10 p.m. everyday except Sunday. Cash only.

Good food and friendly service. Best breakfast on the island. Also excellent home-made burgers, sandwiches, salads and daily specials. On Friday’s its Burger and Movie night. USD 10.00 gets you a great burger and admission to Saba’s only outdoor big screen cinema where owners Wim and Johanna screen the latest blockbusters.

Open for breakfast and lunch daily. Dinner several times a week. Call for current schedule.

At the Eco-Lodge Very beautiful setting, especially at night. Serves excellent food with much of the produce coming from organic gardens located on the property. Our favourite time to go is on Tuesday nights when they have a set Indonesian Rijstaffel meal, which consist of rice and many different dishes. The main menu is very good as well. On Wednesday nights owner Tom van't Hof (who originally established the Saba and Bonaire Marine Park) gives a slide show on Saba. Opened for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Closed on Monday for lunch and dinner. Reservations recommended for dinner.

My Kitchen
Wilhelm and Sonja along with Chef Vic invite you to dine either inside or under the stars at their charming restaurant located above the Sea Saba Dive shop. Choose from a varied and interesting menu emphasizing local produces and fresh fresh cooked in an imaginative and creative way. Open for lunch and dinner everyday except Sundays. Credit cards accepted.

The Gate House
Spectacular views towards St. Martin and neighbouring islands. Serves both traditional French and Caribbean inspired cuisine which is very good. Best wine list on the island and has won the Wine Spectator Award for one of the top wine list in the world for the past three years! Probably the most expensive place on the island (expect to pay USD 100 plus for two people depending what wine you order). Open daily

Pop’s Place
Located at Fort Bay where the dive boats pick you up. Great place to hang out between dives. Serves without doubt the best fresh lobster sandwich on the island. Best to order early because when it's gone it's gone. Open daily
